This Tim Hortons needs an overhaul. The service is terrible and the employees just don’t care about customer service. I visited just before 1pm and thought to avoid the rush. There were approximately 8 of us in line and while I was there no one was served while the employees seemed to be chatting or walking around behind the corner. This is the usual at this location, where right around the corner there is another location with so many employees working at one time that the line is constantly moving. I made a complaint last April and obviously nothing has changed.
Saturday afternoon I was stuck with no power at home due to a nearby fire. Went to Tim Hortons to use the wifi and eat lunch , looking online for updates on the hydro outage. Spotted a friend there. Ordered chicken soup with a bun. With a small sized decaf coffee.
He did not ask if it was to stay or to go. I sat down until my order was ready, looking over occasionally to see when my order would be ready.
Girl filled my order. She had placed everything in a paper bag, which I later found included the soup (in a sealed styrofoam bowl) , with a plastic spoon and knife and bun with butter and napkins and salt and pepper. Nice. But I planned to stay. So I looked for a flat plastic food tray. There used to be a stack of them on a smaller counter near end of the counter. Small counter used to hold plastic ‘dining in’ trays with plastic cutlery etc. The small counter is still there, but it is now empty. All of it is gone. No trays or plastic The girl who had brought my order to the counter was still right there. So I requested a tray. Girl looked blankly at me. I repeated politely and quietly that I wanted a tray, gesturing with my arms as though holding a tray. This again met with mystery. What on earth was I talking about.? She sounded it out. Etray? Looked with pleasant puzzlement at turbaned coworker. She repeated to him: Etray. With a shrug. Coworker asked me what I wanted. For the fifth time I asked for a tray. This time I said it carefully and slowly , but politely and in a quietly friend way friendly. This I did so that the words did not mush together into ‘etray’. Or ‘uh, tray’ ? etc.
“A tray”. He held up a cardboard grey cup holder. Like this? I said nicely (patiently) “no, a plastic tray.” Eventually he understood and went to the back through the doors and emerged with plastic food tray.
I placed the food bag onto my newly won tray with my coffee. Sat down, amd gave the bun and butter to the friend, whom I sat with. After twenty minutes there using their wifi internet on a laptop, I decided I should order something more to justify my stay there.
Requested a Creamy Chill. Sounded delicious. Asked for the chocolate one. Paid over $3 for it. Ordering was not easy. Same man in turban serving asked me four times what I was saying/ordering. Eventually he understood me , after four or five tries. He did not ask what size I wanted, or if it was to stay or to go. There was no picture of the ‘ Creamy chill’ anywhere there. So I wondered what would I get for $3.40 (medium size price). Presumably its like a smoothie or shake. He instructed the girl with him (in presumably Arabic) to prepare my order. And it was ready surprisingly fast. But In the small size clear plastic desert cup was a syrupy, watery coffee-flavored ice slurpie/snow cone affair containing no chocolate flavoring, no milk , no cream on top. It was mostly coarse ice, dark brown, had a bitter aftertaste, and was overly sweetened.
I returned it. More difficulty. Server looks mildly irritated at me, the tray guy, back again causing more trouble. He initially answered that I had received what I ordered. Calls manager over. I am not angry. I explain in a friendly way what has happened. Manager straightens it out. I get a Creamy Chill , though the smaller size than what I had been charged for without asking me what size. (found this out later online at home while checking the specs and pics of a Creamy Chill)
The place was moderately slow, not half the seats full and only a very small Iine. Avoid this place if you can. On a busy day or at a busy hour…this is not going to end well. Even with no lineup, this is going to be slow and awkward.
